Vinpocetine is a derivative of the natural alkaloid vincamine, which is extracted from the periwinkle plant. Vinpocetine supports brain metabolism by increasing cerebral synthesis of ATP, the universal currency of energy. Vinpocetine enhances brain metabolism by improving utilization of oxygen. Vinpocetine also increase the synthesis of several neurotransmitters that affect critical brain functions such as memory recall, focus and mood. Caution: Individuals using blood-thinning medications, including asprin, should not use vinpocetine.
